DANTIAN

Development of new ingredients and food products to improve people’s mental and emotional well-being and cognitive performance.

The DANTIAN project has the objective to meet the demand for alimentary strategies aimed at potential mental well-being and cognitive performance of the consumer. The innovation of the project is based on the development of new bioactive ingredients and food supplements, associated with a better understanding of the mechanism of action at the cognitive level and its relationship with the intestinal microbiota, which can have significant effects on people’s emotional well-being.

In the framework of the project, preclinical studies will be carried out to validate the benefits of different foods, extracts and prebiotics against cognitive decline and disorders linked to stress, anxiety and depression. On the other hand, clinical studies will also be carried out with some of these compounds, as well as intestinal microbiota metagenomic studies and the search of biomarkers.

Eurecat participates in the project through its Nutrition and Health Unit, responsible of the technical leading, the experimental tests and their validation; and the Consulting Department, which is in charge of the tasks related to the coordination and management of the project.

DANTIAN counts with the participation of a consortium formed by five agri-food companies (Agrupación de Cooperativas Lácteas – ACOLACT, Mahou-San Miguel, PRONAT, Unió Corporació Alimentària (Unió Nuts) and Agrícola El Bosque), three technological companies (Bioinicia, Biogenetics and the ICA Group) and eight research organizations (Eurecat Technology Centre, the National Association of Canned Fish Manufacturers (ANFACO-CECOPESCA), the Guttman Institute, the University of Barcelona, the University of Santiago de Compostela, the Fundación Biomédica Galicia Sur, the Institute of Agrochemistry and Food Technology (CSIC-IATA) and the Agrifood Technology Centre of Extremadura – CTAEX.
