Development of new fruit-based products adapted to the export and quality requirements of the United States Food and Drug Administration (FDA) and to the Halal certification, responding to the increase in demand for nutritious and healthy products with entry into new international markets such as the American or the Muslim.
Halal products, consumed by the Muslim population, are not associated with any specific country, but within the European Union it is important to highlight the relevant role of France and, outside Europe, the importance of penetrating markets such as Saudi Arabia.
In the food industry, technological processes of cleaning and disinfection with ethanol and other products subject to being considered Haram are often used, a fact that needs to be modified in order to certify these products as Halal.
Eurecat participates in this initiative through its Nutrition and Health Unit in the validation of the shelf life of the new products developed by Safrunat SL as part of the project, in order to guarantee their food safety and quality.
The project is coordinated by the Catalonia Food Retail Cluster.
