Thermochemical treatments of by-products from the biomass and agri-food sectors to increase their added value.
The GASIFICATION project evaluates the feasibility of using by-products from the agri-food and biomass sectors, such as sewage sludge, fruit pulp and biomass ends, as renewable energy sources through their treatment with thermochemical processes such as pyrolysis or gasification.
The project has four key objectives:
- Determine the potential of the different by-products to be treated using thermochemical processes) and obtain renewable energy.
- Investigate the robustness of the treatment in the face of seasonality in the production of by-products and mixtures thereof.
- Reduction of fossil fuel consumption in the agro-food industry through the use of synthesis gas or bio-oil.
- Determine the technical, economic and environmental viability of the technologies investigated in the project.
The consortium is made up of the Nufri and BOSCAT companies. Eurecat is the provider of knowledge and participates in it through its Waste, Energy and Environmental Impact Unit (WEEI). The project is coordinated by the Catalonia Bioenergy Cluster (CBC).
